Pieter secures silver in 2022 Longines Global Champions Tour Championship

It was a Championship that came down to the wire, as the world’s top riders jumped under the glittering stars of an Arabian night in the 15th and final leg of the 2022 Longines Global Champions Tour in the Saudi Arabian capital city, Riyadh.

With top mares MoM’s Toupie and Claire Z, Pieter pulled out all the stops to give overall leader Ben Maher a battle worthy of the title, however in the end it came down to just a handful of points with Pieter settling for second place.

As well as his individual success, Pieter helped his GCL team - the Prague Lions - secure third place in the 2022 Championship, fast-tracking their team to the GCL Super Cup Semi-Finals in Prague this November.

Speaking about the result, Pieter said: "We fought to the end, but I am so proud to be second in the LGCT Championship - what a strong season we had, I couldn’t be more proud of my horses and team, who make everything possible. Thank you a lot to my team, the people around the horses - the grooms, everybody. They are not in the spotlight but they have to travel all over the world, being ready for us all of the time. It was fantastic for them to share the podium with us in Riyadh and be recognised with their own trophies.

Congratulations to Ben and his team and connections, it has been a battle all season, but I think we can both be proud of what we achieved this year.

A great result for the Prague Lions too means we qualify directly for the GCL Super Cup - so looking forward to helping the home team in the Prague Playoffs and contest the Super Grand Prix.”

The GC Prague Playoffs will take place from the 17th - 20th November 2022.
